Hampton Rovers players Angus Brayshaw and Brayden Maynard will become the latest AFL players from the club when their names are read out at Thursday’s AFL Draft on the Gold Coast.
Angus Brayshaw, the son of outgoing club chairman Mark Brayshaw, is currently on the Gold Coast receiving plenty of media attention and is expected to be picked in the top three. If that’s the case he’ll most likely join Melbourne and join other Rovers players Chris Dawes, Christian Salem and Jayden Hunt.
Melbourne has long been linked to the midfielder, and with good reason. The season couldn’t have gone much better for Brayshaw, with the Sandringham Dragons captain establishing himself as a likely top-five pick very early and held his form for the remainder of the year. Brayshaw is a game-changer who wins his own possessions, breaks away from stoppages, kicks well on both feet and has a relentless attitude. He’s tough, throws himself at the ball and does everything for his team. Brayshaw has just as much going for him as any other midfielder available. First playing for the Rovers in 2003, he has played a total of 124 games for the club.
Brayden Maynard is tipped to be selected somewhere in the 20’s and is a chance to head to the Crows. After 13 games for the Sandringham Dragons last season, Maynard stepped up his tilt at the draft this year with 17 games this season and three as part of Vic Metro’s NAB AFL Under-18 squad. He finished strongly and claimed the Sandringham Dragons best & fairest. Brayden played 53 games for the Rovers and was part of the U17 division 1 premiership season last year.
