Reserves 2016 Season Report

Well what a tough year it was in the Reserves… With many players leaving or generally being unavailable for a variety of reasons, it was left to a committed core bunch of players who rode the highs and lows of 2016. Premier B is a very good standard of football and takes a level of commitment to compete. Unfortunately we didn’t have a deep enough list to compete for long enough.

Although the scoreboard wasn’t flash for 17 of the 18 weeks, I can say that the level of enthusiasm and fun which was had by the committed few was most rewarding. Our one win versus Old Haileybury was very rewarding and our ability to compete and stay in the game earlier in the season was great. Like anything when injuries, illness, work and Bali called, we weren’t able to sustain this competitiveness.

Without naming everyone, I would like to thank those regulars who trained and competed each and every week for the jumper and their mates. The leaders were enormous this season and they led the way each week. Unfortunately we lost our captain Nick Jewell for work commitments. However, stalwarts Ben Kezilas, Adam Power, Lachlan Wheeler, Rory Lynch, Brendan Culvenor and Vinnie Camera stood up each week and put their body on the line. The development of some younger guys will in time pay dividends – Jack Campion and Luke Morcom in particular.

Like every season there are many people to thank. Mick Dove for his running capabilities and administrative duties mid-week. He is a huge support so thank you. Annie Westhead for Team Manager role and time keeping. Again, a role which the team must have and goes unnoticed by many. Glenn Finkelde whose role was a little undefinable – Magnet mover, Runner, player and general sanity keeper for those on the bench. Flynny most weeks behind the goals thank you. And the trainers for their commitment to the group.

A huge thank you to Owen, Lou and Johnny for their support throughout the season. They recognised the challenges across the club and made a huge effort each and every week to make it enjoyable.

Finally, a huge thanks to the committee for their support throughout the year – Ando, Nashy, Freddie, Vossy and Dean Lovig. Your efforts are huge and this can never be underestimated.
