Reserves finish strong over Marcellin

The Hampton Rovers Reserves had a big 44-point win over Marcellin at Boss James Reserve on Saturday.

The big question is whether or not they have left their run for the finals too late. Three and a half games out of the four with six rounds remaining – possible, but we will need a bit of luck on our side.

Nick Jewell, after a few weeks in the Seniors, turned it on in the Ressies for a BOG performance. Big Cain Malthouse was continuing his great form and capped off his game on Saturday with three goals in a sparkling performance. Charlie Miles in his second game back from a broken jaw continued his improvement and dominated in the ruck all day.

Marlon Woltering, now playing as the rangy wingman is enjoying time out of the ruck and back-line duties. He was clearly one of our best on the day.

It was a close struggle for most of the day. Cougs, Jack Massie and Tom Youl were solid in defence and Sam Dalton, Lloydy and Broadley were all showing the form we need to win a few more games this season. Mr Reliable, Steve Ando, was back in his 449th club game after a week away and his coolness under pressure was a treat to watch – there’s quite a few games still left in the old bloke!

At the final break it was a 9 point game but all of a sudden the Rovers scoring options opened and with a 7.3 last quarter we just steamrolled the opposition to run out easy 44 point winners.
