Steven Kidd appointed as Reserves coach

Following the success of the 2013 season, which saw the Seniors win the premiership and the Reserves play off in a Preliminary Final, the Hampton Rovers are pleased to announce Steven Kidd as Reserves Coach for 2014.

Steven comes to the Rovers following a successful playing career; playing over 250 games with St Bede’s Mentone including 3 senior premierships, runner-up in the Bellarine Peninsula Football League’s competition best and fairest in 2010 playing for Torquay, and a brief stint in Perth with the Fremantle Amateur Football Club. Steven coached St Bede’s Mentone’s Under 17 team in 2006 and was Assistant Coach to the Reserves in 2013.

Steven’s enthusiasm for coaching stood out during his interview. He has a strong desire to learn and he is excited about the opportunity to do so under well respected senior assistant coaches Owen Lalor and Steve Kennedy, as well as premiership coach Guy Martyn. He has a clear understanding of where the Hampton Rovers are currently at, as well as the Club’s vision for the future.

Steven made mention of the strong brand the Hampton Rovers have within the community as well as the winning culture the Rovers have recently regained. “The Rovers have always been an arch nemesis as they’ve always been such a strong club, but now I can’t wait to get down to the club, to get involved and for pre-season to start”.

“I’m blown away with the quality of the playing list, and really look forward to working with the guys as well as the other coaches. Marto (Guy Martyn) told me where they are at in terms of recruitment for 2014, and it looks like they will have some really positive announcements in the coming weeks, which will continue to strengthen the list. During my interview Mitzi (Matthew Gray) and Marto gave me an outline of the Club’s culture, and I’m really excited to be joining a Club which is so proud of its healthy culture. It’s very professionally run and based on that, I’m not surprised they achieved such success in 2013” Kidd said.

Steven takes over from Michael Flahive, who led the Reserves to finish the home and away season in second position and played off in a Preliminary Final.

The Hampton Rovers are still accepting applications for a Development Coach and a Rehabilitation Coach. Applications to be forwarded to Matthew Gray at matthew.clarke.gray@gmail.com

2014 Pre-Season Training starts on Monday 25th of November. Stay tuned to the website for more details. You can meet Steven at the upcoming Rovers Premiership Flag party on Sunday 17th November at the Hampton RSL.
