Reserves perfect start continues

The Rovers Ressies have continued their undefeated start to the 2013 season with a convincing 10-goal win against Williamstown.

Boss James Reserve played host to a massive day of football and entertainment, with the Rovers holding their annual Ladies Lunch and Ladies Night functions, along with two games of football, and it was the reserves game that was opening precessions.

With a larger crowd than normal watching on, the reserves got the day off to a great start with a dominant first quarter performance, kicking 4 goals to Williamstown’s 2, with the Woodland brothers (Tyson and Liam) and Daniel Andersen taking full advantage of Rob Bibby’s great tap work in the ruck.

The Rovers went into a lull after the quarter time break, allowing Williamstown to take advantage of a slight breeze and to constantly put pressure on the backline. However terrific run and pressure from MATT POWELL and Mark Short forced Williamstown ‘s forwards into wayward kicking (1 goal, 5 behinds). A scuffle in the Rovers forward line, five minutes from the half-time break was exactly what the side needed to change the momentum , with the Rovers kicking three unanswered goals to go into the half-time break with a four-goal lead.

The Rovers never looked back after half-time, kicking an impressive nine goals to Williamstown’s four to run out convincing 58-point victors.

Powell and Chris Long (5 goals) were best afield, with ruckman/forward Charlie Miles, Shem Curry, Andersen, and Short also having great days out.

Special mention to Supercoach Michael Flahive who has increased his winning percentage to exactly 20 with four from four wins this year, having previously only managing three wins in the past two season.

Another special mention to Bernie Woodland for representing Nick Jewell at the tribunal on Tuesday night and ensuring that the Jewlly’s two game suspension was thrown out.

The clubbies had no game last weekend as the could not field a side and were forced to forfeit their match.

This week Boss James hosts a Glen Eira club looking for their first wins in both grades, with the memories of last season firmly etched into the Rovers minds, the club will be looking to firmly dispatch Glen Eira in both games.
