Vale Wiley Austin

It is with extreme sadness that we advise the passing of club great Wiley Austin.

Wiley joined the Hampton Rovers in 1978 as a 19 year old and quickly earnt the reputation as a tough, determined talented footballer.

He was revered by his teammates, revered and feared by his opponents and his contributions on and off the field were immense.

Wiley is a Life Member of the club and was inducted as a member of the Hall of Fame in 2016. He was regarding as being the “heart and soul of the football club in some very lean years”.

He played 162 games for the club and his involvement included Senior Captain five years, Committee member and member of the club executive for three years, Bar Manager, Pavilion Manager, Most Determined trophy winner.

Those that had the pleasure of playing in the green & gold with Wiley were in awe of his attack on the ball and his great physical strength.

As enormous as he was on the ground, he was a goliath off the ground and his input over 20 years will be nearly impossible to replicate.

RIP Wiley
