2020 President’s Report

In a year of such negativity and disappointment, I would like to highlight the positive aspects of season 2020.

We welcomed Nathan Bonney, a new appointment as strength and conditioning coach and saw the return of two experienced players in Josh McPherson and Nathan Smith and we remained undefeated! Pre-season training was exceptional with great buy-in from our players. Congratulations to our coaching group.

We were, and will be in 2021, enthusiastic, confident, very fit and committed.

Off-field there was were an enormous amount of work that had to be undertaken and I will be eternally grateful to our Junior committee, headed by Rohan Bardwell and the amount of work Alisdair Smyth undertook as our COVID-19 Safety Officer was simply outstanding.

Our treasurers Kate Robb and Megan McCartney provided us with detailed reports on a regular basis to ensure we could navigate a way to somehow end up in the black…thank you ladies.

The Senior committee and players contributed tirelessly, Cam Voss was inundated this year updating the website for past grand final replays, podcast’s, raffles and newsletters to keep everyone in Roverland connected. Players instigated the podcasts and Thursday night raffles, which provided such important funds and gave us all the chance to be a winner. Ausfine Foods donated the Porterhouse …again… and we are extremely grateful for all those who purchased some tickets and were lucky enough to have their name called out. A big thank you and congratulations.

To our wonderful sponsors, a huge thank you for your commitment to our club and I implore everyone to support them. Our major sponsor Buxton has been with us through thick and thin and if you have any property dealings at all, please rush into their Sandringham office, telling them you are from the Rovers.

Our loyal 2020 club members and supporters please take a bow. Your generous financial support during a season that wasn’t and in trying times was exceptional.

We had no hesitation in re-appointing our coaching group for 2021 with the one exception of Sam Care who did not want to go on again.

On another positive note, we are back in discussions with the Bayside Council in regards to renovations to the Wright-Scarlett Pavilion at Boss James Reserve.

Bring on 2021 and I cannot wait to welcome you all back to the Boss.

Gary Nash
Senior President
