As the 2015 VAFA season fast approaches, the club is looking for additional players to ensure the Thirds have sufficient numbers throughout the year. The season kicks off this Saturday with an away trip to Monash Blues.
Once again, the Hampton Rovers Football Club is fielding four senior teams with the Third XVIII competing in the VAFA Premier C Thirds competition – the same division as last year.
While numbers are looking ok at the moment, the club does need to attract more players to ensure sufficient player depth throughout the season. Thirds Footy is perfect for all ages and abilities, or if you’re looking to just have a kick and cannot fully commit to training.
Work commitments has meant coach of the past couple of seasons Seb Wright is unable to continue in the head role in 2015 but he will still have involvement and play when able to. Michael Freedman will step up and take the reins this year with Bernie Woodland appointed Assistant Coach. Richard Wright will assist as Team Manager. We’re also on the lookout for officials so if you’re interested in assisting in any way, please make contact with the club or Michael/Bernie/Richard directly.
The season kicks-off on Saturday 11th April with the Rovers playing Monash Blues 9:20am at Monash University Clayton. This year the VAFA Thirds competitions will have 15 rounds instead of the normal 18 with three weeks off during the season. The full fixture is now available here.
The Rovers see the Thirds as a most-important team and are fully committed to ensure the club continues with at least four senior teams moving forward. Previously we’ve seen players play their first game for the club in the Thirds, move up to the Reserves and then promoted to the Seniors.
The club is offering cheaper subs for Thirds-only players in 2015. All players are able to pay the full-time student rate ($200 if paid before round 1) or $220 thereafter. Payment can be made online when registering to play.
Existing Rovers players (if you haven’t played at a club since last playing at the Rovers) or if you’ve never played for a club, can register online immediately by clicking here >
Please note all 2014 players need to re-register online.
If you have played at another club, you will require a clearance. Simply contact us and we’ll do the rest.
