Thirds

Thirds notch another win

Two weeks off for all teams except for the Thirds/Development Team whose current run of good form continued against a team in the four.  Last Friday night, it was cold, not quite freezing but a great night to have a tight win against Collegians, a team who had tickets on themselves to bowl us over at their home ground in a night match. How wrong were they?

In one of our best defensive efforts of the year we kept them to 2.12 at half time while banging on 4.3 ourselves. A comfortable 3 point lead.   Mind you, we weren’t confident as how we’d go in the second half as the lack of condition of our highly tuned team was brought into question particularly when none of them train except for Kai Carrigan and Speedy and both of them were on the comeback trail after injury and overseas holidays respectively and of course the Somogyi brothers.

The third quarter was a hard, tough slog.  Those of us in the comfort of the Collegians social rooms were relatively warm but still had trouble identifying any of the players as the game seem to be played on the outer gloomy wing. Still we equalled the opposition’s score to maintain our lead.  The last quarter was a classic.  Both sides had trouble  scoring but at the final siren we had maintained eh lead we had at quarter to  come home with a comfortable 3 point win.

This was particularly impressive when you consider that James Young who had been dominant in the last couple of weeks on the scoreboard and JLov, the skipper, were both off with injuries for the last stanza.  All I know of the last quarter is that I am reliably advised that Speedy’s usually accurate goal kicking radar was off target otherwise the margin would have been greater!

Collegians       0.7        2.12     4.13     5.17     47
HR                        4.2        4.3        6.4        7.8        50
