Under 19

U19s crushing win secures finals berth

The Hampton Rovers Under 19s tasted victory yet again, crushing Collegians by 115 points to win their seventh-straight and all but guarantee a finals berth.

In the opening match of a triple-header at Boss James Reserve, the young Rovers faced an undermanned Collegians side and in the strong wind, managed to hold the opposition scoreless in the opening half.

In total, it was 45 scoring shots to five. The club’s leading goal kicker Cam Jones could only add two to his tally, taking him to 52 – seven ahead of Ed Turner in the Seniors.

Great to see James Short and Harry Hodges, both of whom have had a run in the seniors this year in the best players and also to see young Nick Pavlou running riot up forward. Mackie Robertson picked up the award as best on ground with fine performances by Connor Clarke, Toby Sullivan and Jack Campion.

The Rovers had ten goal kickers with Conor Clarke and Mackie Robertson each kicking three with two to Corey Jones, Cam Jones, Joel Emmins and James Short.

Good news for the Rovers was that Beaumaris lost later in the day the Rovers are now unlikely to drop out of the four, being eight points clear of fifth with two games remaining.

Next up is Old Haileybury followed by ladder-leaders Oakleigh to close out the home & away season.
