Under 19

Paul Carrigan appointed U19 Coach

The Hampton Rovers Football Club is thrilled to announce Paul Carrigan will take over the reins from Zac Pirrie as Under 19 and Development Coach for the 2023 season.

After a positive 2022 season in which the Rovers U19s fell agonisingly short of a finals appearance after being promoted to U19 Division 1, Zac is moving into a senior development coaching role at the club and will no doubt continue his approach of fun, development, and a winning culture he developed over the past two years.

A Life Member of the Rovers, Carrigan has a long background in coaching having started in 1987 as a twenty-year-old at Beverly Hills JFC, running the football department for four seasons and was awarded life membership of both Beverley hills and Doncaster East where he played in the Eastern Football League.

Stints at Eastern Rangers, Oakleigh Chargers & U16 coaching at Sandringham Dragons, SMJFL interleague in 2018 & St Kilda Next Gen 2017-18, his technical knowledge is vast & his passion for the Hampton Rovers is evident over the past decade, having served on the Junior committee spearheading the football department over the past five years. He was also the inaugural recipient of the SMJFL Outstanding Service award in 2021.

His vision to create the Junior Rovers mantra of PASSION TEAMWORK FUN RESPECT are drivers that have seen the junior section of the club thrive from 2016-21, while his work bringing East Sandringham JFC & the Rovers together in the older age groups has created major benefits for all boys and girls looking to play footy.

When questioned about the role, Caggs was quick to acknowledge the efforts of Zac.

“It takes drive to coach U19 lads, we will aim to bolster their technical knowledge of the overall playing group, identify lads that want to improve their football and play seniors.

“I will work with senior coach Anthony Quon, pushing the group to be the best players they can be, with a no limit approach.

“The club has a strong connection with the community, not just good footballers but better citizens via plenty of support along the way.

“My vision is to see the seniors playing competitive football in VAFA Premier section within five years, it’s time to roll the sleeves up and get to work. The Juniors are 100% on board with the Senior section of the club and we are in a health position going forward.”

75% of the Rovers Under 19 list from the 2022 season will be going around again in 2023, while the U17.5 players pushing up have some real good players that will fit in well. Numbers are healthy, but we are keen to hear from anyone that is looking to be a part of something special in the next few years, players, assistant coaches and support staff.

We are currently recruiting for an U19 Assistant Coach. We are looking for keen footy people that have sound knowledge of the game, bring Passion, an open mind, and an eager desire to help the club go forward. We believe in equal opportunity and welcome anyone that has time and effort to give. Please forward interest to Paul Carrigan on pcarrigan@c-sgroup.com or 0424139622.

2023 Pre-Season training commences on Monday 21 November with a Players meeting at Boss James Reserve from 6pm. Training continues each Monday and Wednesday from 6pm at Brighton Secondary College through until December 12. All new and existing players are encouraged to attend.
