Under 19

Under 19’s off to a Flying Start

You could feel the tension in the rooms before the game as 15 of the starting 24 lined up for their first game for the Senior section of the club.

Squandered opportunities in the first half brought about by sloppy kicking and handball had Coach Quon wondering where the pre season training track form had gone!  With strong performances from Chris Britton and Rob Johnston up back, Pat Ivory winning in the ruck and Jack Baxter running riot all over the ground we should have been in a better position than equal footing with Parkdale at half time.  It was our poor disposal that was keeping Parkdale in the game.

After half time the boys finally switched on with Ed Turner and Max Greenway delivering the ball well to Mat Innes it was clear that the further the game went the better we were becoming.  With Jack Massie doing a fine tagging job on Parkdale’s goal sneak, Jess Craig and Richard Atkins getting on top on their opponents and the forwards starting to share the ball meant that by three quarter time we had a buffer of a couple of goals despite kicking to the non preferred scoring end.

The last quarter was a hard fought affair with captain Max Greenway leading the way.  Good performances from Jess Gould, Ed Turner and Brendan Culvenor were finished off my Matt Innes who slotted 4 for the game.  In the end we ran out comfortable winners by 27 points.

The supporters agreed that the performance of the day was by Cam Atkins as the most flamboyant goal umpire we?ve had for years!

Training this week is back to Monday and Thursday.  Please ensure that you?re there by 5:45pm.
