Thirds fixture released

The fixture for the new Rovers Thirds team has been released with a round one match-up against Ormond. Meanwhile Boss James Reserve will play host to a triple header round one after the Under 19 fixture was re-released.

The Rovers Thirds will complete in the VAFA Club XVIII South competition and will take on local rivals Ormond, St Bedes Mentone, Caulfield and Oakleigh. Other teams to make up the section are South Melbourne, Old Melburnians, Old Scotch, Old Geelong and St Mary’s Salesian. The release of the fixture was delayed due to the confirmation of an additional team which occurred late last week to make it an even ten team competition.

The season will run for 15 rounds with the Rovers playing eight games at home, seven of which will be before the Under 19’s (11:40am start) while Round 8 will see a triple-header at Boss James Reserve with a 9:30am start before the Reserves and Seniors take on Old Melburnians.

Training commences for the Rovers Thirds team this Thursday from 6pm at Boss James Reserve. Numbers have been strong and new players are welcome down for a run! The club is pleased to announce Glenn Roulent as coach for the new Thirds team in 2009. Glenn is a past player with the Rovers and played in the last Club XVIII team we had a number of years back.

Meanwhile, the Under 19’s fixture was recently re-released following a change in the team line-up. The South section will now also include Beaumaris and the Rovers will kick-off the season at Boss James Reserve against Parkdale. With the Seniors also at home, it will mean a big double-header and a 9:30am start, before the Reserves and Seniors take on University Black in Round 1 of B Section.
