Rovers announce Thirds for 2009

With the step up to B Section in 2009, the Hampton Rovers are pleased to announce the re-introduction of a thirds team playing in the VAFA Club XVIII competition.

The new team will create an additional 22 open-age playing spots every Saturday in a slightly more relaxed environment, with the Reserves set to be a stronger outfit following the club’s promotion to VAFA B Section for the 2009 season.

It’s anticipated the Thirds will compete in the VAFA Club XVIII South competition, playing the likes of Beaumaris, Ormond, St Bedes Mentone and Oakleigh. The season consists of 15 rounds plus finals. Matches will typically commence at 11:40am, prior to U19 games.

The club is looking to recruit 20-30 new/returning players to fill the team. Anyone interested please email the club (
info@hamptonrovers.com.au or Click Here). We?re also interested in expressions of interest for a coach and officials. An opportunity also exists for a team sponsor.

The Rovers last had a Club XVIII team in 2002, this year we?re looking to bring it back bigger and better than ever as the Rovers head into an exciting new era. There has already been plenty of interest in the newly formed team. Again, anyone interested please contact us ASAP so we can gauge interest.

With the introduction of a Thirds team, the Rovers are looking to achieve the following:

Make the Reserves stronger, putting more pressure on senior spots.

Provide an opportunity for players who don?t believe they?re up to B Section Senior & Reserve football to continue playing at the club.

Encourage past players back to the club who may have retired or moved to another competition.

Further details about this exciting news will be announced shortly.
