Even with 6 regular players out injured or ill and a bench full of half fit players we easily accounted for Peninsula Old Boys in the last round of the home and away season. In a generally lack lustre affair we were never really challenged by the POBs except for a 5 minute spell in the third quarter where they kicked most of their total score. It was pleasing again to see us not letting up in the last quarter to post 6.8 to 0.1.
It was good to see the 2 Maxs – Robertson-Long and Greenway leading the way in the final round. Good performances were put in by backmen Brent Stevens, Jack Eastman and Jordan Goss who have developed into a cohesive backline unit.
Nathan Davidson kicked another big tally – 9 for the day and Zeke chipped in for another 3.
Quonny in his after match interview made it clear that our accuracy up front would have to improve if we are to proceed through the final series ?We can?t afford to waste our inside 50s when playing against the top sides he said. He was also concerned that our midfielders would have to play more accountable footy when the opposition had the ball. We went on to say ?too often we failed to pick up POB midfielders when they had control of the ball – every player is responsible for his opponent.?
It was good to see the team meet after the game down at Brown Cow (one of our sponsors) for a few drinks and discussion on the game. It has been reported that our Assistant Coach put in a best on ground performance!
All players and parents are invited down to training at 6pm Monday night where special guest will be Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse, who will address the team before training. Parents and friends are invited to attend and hear from one of the legends of the game.
