U19 Match Report v MHSOB

The last time we met MHSOB we managed to sneak home with a lucky win coming over the top in the dying minutes.  This time around with Jacko and Schmita promoted  to the seniors, Jess Gould overcoming concussion and Fish out with the flu the outcome appeared uncertain.

Our fears were quickly allayed as we continued our good form with a punishing first quarter where we nailed 8 goals to nil to virtually seal the game.  With the coaching panel implementing more rotations than a ferris wheel it was difficult to keep track of who was playing where!  The standout again was Boof with 9 goals to – time and a short spell in the last to bring up the double figures.  As can be seen by the score line we didn?t let up all day with 8, 6 and 5 goals in the first three quarters followed by a last quarter blitz of 10 goals from 7 different players.

The return of Matty Law and Brad Trembath added bite around the packs and Brad went on to kick 5 in his best game for the year so far.  Haydos kept up his impressive mid season form for another great game ably supported by Russ Howe and Ruddy in the centre.  The backline again held firm with Sammy Adams, Gossy and Max Greenway repelling the Old Boys easily.  Max even snagged 3 goals in the last quarter while resting at full forward.

It was good to see the alternate ruck combination of Steve Howe and Earl Cottrell dominating their taller opponents and providing many opportunities for the midfielders.  Jess Lovig playing a rare game out of the ruck appeared comfortable in the backline and picked off many of the High School’s errant forays forward.

We?re playing away in a danger game this week against Bentleigh at the earlier time of 11.40am.  A win by them would give them a chance to make the finals whereas our position appears secure – the pressure will be on.
