It was another memorable weekend for the Hampton Rovers, with four wins from five matches on the field and a fantastic turnout at Boss James Reserve for Past Players Day and the club’s annual $2K Night.
Around 100 past players, officials, volunteers and supporters gathered for the Home Game Luncheon before more familiar faces joined throughout the afternoon, making it a wonderful celebration of the club. The lunch also included the awarding of Life Membership to Anton Duddy. They watched the Reserves and Seniors dominate Old Peninsula with both teams recording big wins. The festivities continued into the evening with another successful $2K Night fundraiser. Congratulations to Peter Clements, who took home the major prize, and thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket and supported one of the club’s biggest fundraising events of the year.
Senior Men
The Senior Men produced one of the most dominant performances in recent memory, overwhelming Old Peninsula by 138 points at Boss James Reserve in TAC Road Safety Round.
With a strong contingent of past players watching on after the Home Game Luncheon, the Rovers set the tone from the opening bounce, kicking the first five goals to open a commanding 37-point lead at quarter time. Hampton maintained its intensity throughout the afternoon, taking a 71-point advantage into half-time while keeping the visitors scoreless.
The second half provided an opportunity to rotate players through different roles without any drop in intensity. Old Peninsula never stopped competing, but Hampton continued to move the ball with speed and finished strongly with seven final-quarter goals to complete a comprehensive 22.20 (152) to 2.2 (14) victory.
Liam O’Driscoll starred with six goals in his ruck-forward role, while Dan Hall showcased his pace with three majors. Ben Seddon’s running goal was another highlight of the afternoon. Harry Block, Seddon, Hall, Kai Carrigan, Ben Klingwort and Angus Aujard were named the side’s best.

Senior Women
The Senior Women were unable to match the ladder leaders, going down to St Mary’s Salesian despite a spirited performance. While the scoreboard didn’t reflect the contest, the Rovers continued to compete throughout the afternoon against one of the competition’s benchmark sides.
Matilda Brown, Kristy Ebbott, Olive Tuppen, Mandy Naylor, Holly Lance and Shae Raywood were among the Rovers’ best.

Reserves
The Reserves matched the Senior Men’s dominance, producing one of their most complete performances of the season to defeat Old Peninsula by 176 points.
After leading by 77 points at half-time, the Rovers continued to pile on the goals while maintaining their disciplined team-first football. The midfield gave the forwards plenty of opportunities, while the defensive unit completed an outstanding four-quarter performance to restrict Old Peninsula to just one goal.
Clinton Young and Lucas Rankine each kicked five goals, while Jake Klinkhamer, Joel Bowditch and Lachlan Fraser added three apiece. Bowditch’s return after a lengthy injury layoff was another highlight of the afternoon.

The Thirds / Development Team continued their winning form, defeating MHSOB by 24 points across at Castlefield Reserve.
The Rovers burst out of the blocks with five first-quarter goals to establish a match-winning lead before grinding out the contest over the remaining three quarters. Mitchell Hall kicked three goals, while Richard Atkins added two in another valuable victory.

The Under 19s completed another impressive win, defeating De La Salle by 57 points to make it three wins from the triple-header at Boss James Reserve.
Despite kicking 10.20, the Rovers generated 30 scoring shots in a dominant display. Gideon Ziesing led the way with four goals, while Benjamin Weeks added two. The U19s currently sit third on the ladder and aiming to lock in their finals position in the coming weeks.

The Rovers are back at Boss James Reserve this Saturday for another big day of football, with the Senior Men and Reserves hosting Mazenod and the Thirds taking on Beaumaris first up. The Senior Women travel to Waverley Oval to face De La Salle, while the Under 19s head to Elsternwick Park for an afternoon clash with Old Melburnians.
