Hampton Rovers Football Club will band together for road safety this weekend, with players across all five senior teams wearing blue armbands as part of the 2026 TAC Road Safety Round.
Held from 23–26 July, the round unites more than 1,000 grassroots football and netball clubs across Victoria in support of safer roads while remembering those whose lives have been impacted by road trauma.
This year’s campaign focuses on speeding, which contributes to at least 30 per cent of fatal crashes and 25 per cent of serious-injury crashes in Victoria. Even driving just 5km/h above the speed limit significantly increases the risk of a serious crash.
The message is simple: make the right choice and slow down on the road.
Now in its eighth year, TAC Road Safety Round is a major initiative of the TAC and AFL Victoria’s long-running partnership. The campaign was launched at the MCG this week in front of 291 blacked-out seats – one for every life lost on Victorian roads during 2025.
So far this year, 140 people have lost their lives on Victoria’s roads. While that figure represents a reduction on the same time last year, every life lost is one too many.
The blue armbands worn by Rovers players this weekend are a visible reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Whether we are players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, parents or partners, every member of our community can make choices that protect themselves, their teammates and everyone else using our roads.
As part of the TAC Club Rewards Program, Hampton Rovers will continue sharing road-safety messages and activities across the club and our digital channels, as we continue to be a road-safety leader within our community.
We encourage everyone in the Rovers community to support the campaign:
- Always drive within the speed limit and adjust your speed to the conditions.
- Never use a mobile phone while driving.
- Make sure you are well rested before travelling to training or matches.
- If you are drinking, plan another way home.
- Speak up when a friend or teammate is taking risks on the road.
On the field and on the road, we are all on the same team.
Keep an eye on the Hampton Rovers website and social channels throughout the weekend for coverage of TAC Road Safety Round – and help us spread the message by sharing our campaign content.
Be the difference. Make the right choice. Slow down on the road.
