The Hampton Rovers Amateur football Club mourn the passing of Lance Smith.
Lance played 135 games for the club between 1962 and1969. He began in the Scouts (under 19s) and progressed into the seniors where he played the majority of his games.
Lance won the Seniors Best and Fairest in 1968 and like his brother Ross, was a fine rover.
In the early days, many Rovers players including Lance and Ross were members of the First Hampton Scout Group which was the founding entity of our great club.
Ross Smith also played in the Scouts before carving an incredible career at St Kilda in the VFL where he was a Premiership player & Brownlow Medallist.
Lance was a keen Rovers supporter and attended our home game lunches where possible and for some years now, Lance has played in a Thursday golf group which includes a strong Rovers contingent, including Peter Wolfe, Bill Jowett, Dick Prideasux, Jim Westhead, Scott Hamilton, Ian Cave, Glenn Thompson and Gary Nash.
We will miss his friendship and his love of a red and we extend our deepest sympathy to the family.
The family will hold a private memorial.
RIP LANCE
