From the President – April 28

Well here we are, nearly a month since my last update… they say time flies when you’re having fun. It has been a very long month!

Whilst nothing has changed as far as our season goes, we have certainly seen positive improvement in the pandemic situation, so let’s keep up the great work we are all contributing to and hopefully soon we will be meeting at the Boss. View the latest update from AFL Victoria here.

Thank you to the 18 people who have purchased 2020 club memberships – it is greatly appreciated during these times. You can view the members list and purchase one online today here from just $70.

Without our sponsors, we do not exist. Buxton Sandringham have been our rock for decades now…. PLEASE if anyone has a property to list or to rent, contact me and we will introduce you.

Brighton Mazda – if you are thinking of purchasing another car or getting your car serviced, please support them and mention the Rovers.

One of our own, Paul Pavlou at Knight Sport is like a lot of businesses, doing it tough at the moment and they have a great variety of Home Activity Kits which you can purchase online to remain active. View them here. I have purchased their Golf Chipping kit and my handicap has reduced dramatically and they have a variety of packages for all ages.

You can also support Hotel Brighton at the moment by purchasing a pint of beer online and once they re-open, CUB will match your purchase, meaning you’ll receive two for one! View details here. Please view a list of all our club sponsors on our website here and if you’re interested in becoming a sponsor, follow the links and someone from our sponsorship team will be in touch to tailor a package for you.

Our great club has had an amazing relationship with the Salvos for some 20 years – we have door knocked, rattled tins at key intersections, and been able to experience an enormous sense of community support knowing that the funds we have raised has benefited those who desperately needed it.

THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT. No door knocking and no rattling tins for obvious reasons, so we need to change our tack. We will set up a fund page and we need to spread the word to everyone we know – family, employers, friends, neighbours etc and simply ask for people to donate what they can afford. We are very lucky to have two Salvation Army officers who volunteer for us – Samantha Oldfield is our senior women’s team manager and husband Stan helps in a variety of ways, reserves timekeeper, BBQ assistant, Thursday night dinners etc. Details will be available on the website, social media and newsletter and we would appreciate your support – Please help and spread the word!

Finally, how about our Tuesday Night Live Replays, absolutely brilliant work Cam! Over the past few weeks we’ve seen the 2013 & 2014 Senior premierships and a fantastic Under 19 flag last year. The 19s had been beaten three times throughout the year but smashed their opponents in a brilliant team effort.

Tonight, you will see another magnificent premiership, against the odds versus Beaumaris in 1998 who were hot favourites and had premiership merchandise printed before the game such was their confidence! Rover spirit once again triumphed as it did in the three previous viewings – watch and enjoy! Tune in from 7pm tonight live on the Rovers Facebook Page or read more here.

Take care please.
