Welcome back from the school holidays and we hope everyone enjoyed the winter break. The club managed to field teams in all of our games over the holidays. Thanks to all players who assisted with other teams. There are quite a few teams that are positioning themselves for a tilt at some finals action and some teams who will shape the final placings. Our next AHWTR this Friday 15 July – Welcome Auskickers
We have a big night planned for this Friday at the club. It is one of our biggest nights and we ask all parents and players of all age groups to come along and support the club. The Rovers Juniors Committee and club members warmly invite the 2016 Auskick children and families to a Friday night training under the lights, together with the 15 July At Home with the Rovers. ROVERS MAIN FUNDRAISER: AUCTION NIGHT – Saturday July 30
The Rovers main fundraiser this year is our Dinner auction to be held on Saturday July 30 at Boss James Reserve. Doors open from 6.30 for a 7.00pm start.
Tickets are priced at $25 per person (or $200 for a table of 10) which includes dinner and entertainment. There will be some trivia, spot prizes and lots of fun games.
This is a whole-club event, encompassing the Auskick, Junior and Senior sections of the club.
We have a special deal that if you can organise an Auction item valued at over $100 you receive a free ticket. (2 tickets for $200 etc). We need donations of items plus numbers in attendance to make this night a success.
We are aiming for at least 1 table from every junior team.

Round 11 match reports
Thank you to all the coaches who have sent through their brief match reports.
Under 8
The Rovers played our friendly neighbour East Sandy. Even though there was no scoring on the day. Our boys kicked the last 3 goals of the day to edge ahead. Oliver kicked his first goal. Theeran was impressive in defence, tackling hard to stop a certain goal. Hugo unlucky not to register a goal with the clock beating the kick. Nate scored 3 goals in one game. Jade played a great attacking game – great attacking and defence.
Under 9 White played East Malvern. Great effort in sub zero weather conditions. Will Mueller was electric in the 1st half Ryan Powell had the ball on a string and was first to the footy all day. Jake Seddon relished his new roll in front of the ball and his talk was invaluable. Kian Khanabashi had a purple patch in the 2nd with 2 great goals and a few assists.
Under 9 Blue played Murrumbeena in a hard fought contest. A strong wind was favouring the southern end, but seemed to die off whenever we kicked with it. Harry Block tackled hard all day, James Pepicelli played an outstanding captains game, Max Bogue was brilliant in defence clearing the ball to advantage and Allesandro McNab fought hard all game, using his small body well to bump opponents off the ball, gather and send it forward.
Under 12 Div 5 played Northvale at Castlefield. Northvale are on top with 400 % points, so we knew we were in for a hard game. We were down to 12 Under 12’s players so once again relied on support of the Under 11’s with 6 of them playing up and doing a brilliant job. Our BOG was no doubt Mitch Gatherecole playing a solid 4 qtrs. he was supported well in the centre by Liam Hutchins, Ben Akinci, and Benjo Wells. Special mention to U 11 jack Cahill who also played an exceptional; game and had to come off in the last dying minutes with a corky.
Under 11 Div 1 played East Brighton at Castlefield. The Vampires were at full strength and the Rovers were like a patch work quilt. We begged, borrowed and stole a number or two at the back end of the school holidays. Max Carroll was the first lad all year to play in one position and what a job he did, typical Max he is the first to repel the vampires from Full back. James Mcnab shone in the backline, Josh Docking on the wing was faultless, the more pressure the better he likes it and mason Carrigan moved into the ruck after the 1st QTR and took control, his pack marks in a vital 4th qtr. Oli Stafford left the best for last when he intercepted a hand pass and ran 70 meters with 3 bounces and slotted the match winner. VIEW FULL REPORT >
Under 13 Div 3 – Prahran had to forfeit.
Under 14 Div 3 – Played East Brighton. A great team win which has us 5th on the ladder. Jeremy Booth played a great in and under game. Tough a sold boots. Michael Benvenuto led all the way from the front all day as great captains do. Outstanding match in the ruck and around the ground in wet conditions. Flynn Lohan the swingman. Had his hand in a few early goals then went back to steady the ship to play a lock down job on one of their stars. Oliver Warren gave us heaps of run and carry off the backline while keeping his direct opponent extremely quiet. Hugo Lay who is known for his class and silky skills, played a tough match in the wet and was a leader for us in pressure acts and tackles.
