WOW! What a fantastic group of players and helpers we have.
This team is a credit to everyone involved including the support of coaches and volunteers since this group formed as U8’s, the U10 teams were again outstanding in 2016.
It was highly evident every Friday night and Sunday match day the group consistently worked on the principle of having a great time while learning personal skills and to play as a team.
U10 Green commenced the season as U10 Blue and moved up after round 5 due to the strong team work and great match play.
2016 was a year which saw the boys learn the club song well as they belted it out more weeks than not. A true highlight of the season was the evenness of our team, we clearly had some high performers each week however the honor was shared by many throughout the season making it very tough to separate the boys for awards at the seasons conclusion.
Through the year the boys played some very direct entertaining football, moving the ball swiftly and cleanly showing outstanding team spirit working very hard for each other while players consistently gave their best for their own improvement and team mates benefit.
It was clear that knowledge, skill level, second efforts and the strength of each player had increased markedly through the year. Our group played brilliantly to the basic game plan this allowed the team to continually build and improve, playing consistent footy as each boy had an opportunity to play on each line during the matches.
In the Lightning Carnival the boys played some of their best footy as they show cased their prowess winning two of their three matches and ever so narrowly missing the third to the award winning team on the day.
An impressive factor beyond the boys years was the talk and genuine support for each other, it certainly had the coaches and supporters marveling at numerous huddles through the year.
At this age it is clear learning and fun are the only imperatives, these boys conducted themselves with great sportsmanship and an attitude on and off the field we were all very proud of.
They represented themselves, and Hampton Rovers, in an exemplary manner in 2016. It is a privilege to help the boys on their footy journey while making some friends that I am sure will last beyond the season passed.
I look forward to next year and the further development of this great group as young men and Rovers players.
Well done on a sensational year boys!

None of the fun can work without the support from our great volunteers who also endure the best a Melbourne winter can dish up. A special note of thanks must go to Adam Cameron who is a huge part of setting the tone for everyone involved with this team. In 2016 Adam completed his 3rd year as the team manager, he is tireless in ensuring the boys get the best opportunities and that things are done the right way. It was great to learn from Adam this year his bright and positive attitude is a tough character assignment to match.
We had help from all families through the year special thanks also goes to Bernie Gill Assistant Coach, Koje Training Specialist & Runner, Adam, James & Tim as Field Umpires, Goal Umpires, Umpire Escorts, Trainers, Zone Coaches, Timekeepers, Water Carriers and Snack Providers.
Thank you to all the players and families involved in a highly successful 2016.
