Junior Update – Round 9

We’re into the second half of the season and winter has hit us! Here’s the latest from the juniors including results and player profiles.

Photos
The photographer has apologised for the unfortunate corruption of the photo file. The photos will be re done in the week starting the 18th of July. They will be shot before the scheduled training time of each team. However, we ask that each team that week train at Boss James. Your team managers will confirm the arrangements for this to be done shortly. Thank you for your understanding and patience on this matter.

All the teams last week are improving as the year progresses. I spent some time at “The Fortress” last weekend and all the kids and coaches looked like they were enjoying themselves.

The Under 8’s played East Sandringham. The game was a tough encounter and it would appear the ball spent most of the time down forward. Toby Clarkson one of the two captains on the day with Joseph Sansotta. They both played great games – great tackling and bought their team mates into the game . Toby kicked a inspiring captains goal to kick start the game. Nate Jongen took “mark of the day”. Addison Rowley also had a great game by giving our forward 6 for that qtr plenty of the ball form his centre clearances.
Lincoln Sharpe became a ball magnet in the last qtr and kicked a well earned goal.

The Under 9 White played Brighton Beach in a battle of the mud slick. Charlie Morey was great in close getting handbballs out of the pack. Matty Cole clearance kicking to advantage was great. Jackson Steyn had a great game kicking 2 ripper goals giving us the advantage in the 2nd half. Kaden Khanabashi was at his best in and under winning the most filthy with the mud dripping off him.

The Under 11 Div 1 played at Boss James. Oliver Howell kicked two gems and worked hard all day. Luka took control in the ruck and gave first option for 4 qtrs Archie “Tractor” Roberts laid the best tackle seen on Boss James for some time. Jake Taranto had a blinder in 8 qtrs of footy as he played for the other Under 11 team. Click here to read the full match report >

The Under 12 team Final score: Hampton Rovers 4 goal  9 behinds = 33 point   Vampires 3 goals 1 behinds = 19 points. A come from behind win at Boss James: The big men didn’t let the coach down as James Hare dominated the ruck, Big Henry Hamilton played tough in the back line and Jorge Houridis attacked the ball with speed and strength. Benjo Wells, fresh from 2 consecutive BOG’s was prominent, Mitch Gathercole was revelling in the mud and Harry Griffin was building on what was to be his best game for the season, Josh Nicoll played a cracker as well, dominating in the last quarter and pushing us ahead on the scoreboard! Special mention go to Ben Ciarma, Jeremy Booth and Lucas Sharp in the Under 14 Div 3 team over the weekend.

Another reminder – help shape the club’s social activities
Deb Hopkins has now taken the role of managing social events for the Juniors. To help Deb shape the social activities we need some other parents to volunteer, preferably from a range of age groups. You will be part of a social sub committee that will keep the AHWTR nights, the Season Opening and Presentation Day running and you will be able to help freshen things up with some new initiatives.

Please email Deb Hopkins debinlondon@hotmail.com or Mel Coyne melindac22@gmail.com with your interest in joining the Rovers junior social sub-committee for 2017.
