We trust all the Mum’s were spoilt last weekend. The Fortress and Boss James were a little quiet with only four home games over the weekend. We had a very good strike rate with only two teams not getting the chocolates.
Under 8’s – Alvero has the team ticking along. It’s lucky we don’t score in this age group because this team are recording cricket scores. Last Thursday the 8’s had their Pie Night and were trained by a couple of St.Kilda boys. Well done to all the parent group for assisting both Alvero and Gary Hardie in making sure the games take place. Well done to all involved.
Under 9’s – The 9’s are getting a reputation amongst the league as the hardest and most determined sides in the SMJFL. Chris has taken off from last year and the boys are responding. The mail is that the Band F votes have been spread very evenly over the first 4 weeks.
Under 10’s – There was a terrible accident at training on Friday night. Jed Marshall broke his leg in a training drill. We hope he recovers well and look forward to seeing Jed next year. Jed will be sorely missed this year. Trent there is added pressure on you now to win some silverware after tripping up one of our best players :}.
Under 11’s – We are blessed on two fronts with this group of boys. Firstly, we have two coaches who are passionate about the development and enjoyment of their players. Our Div one side have won three and lost one, our Div 4 team have won one, had a draw and two losses. Last week the Div 1 defeated Prahran by 38 points. Bang. Our Div 4 team fought back after being 4 goals down to draw. Awesome effort Caggs and Graham Davis. Caggs is getting closer and closer to shedding a tear.
Under 12’s – Brendan Delany and Darren Forbes have these two teams showing more ability and desire than Richmond’s best 21. Not hard I know. Our Div 2 team won on the weekend by 67 over East Sandy. The Div 4 team came up against a very tough opponent in Ormond, they went down by 66 points.
Under 13’s – Our 13’s lost one very good player in Baxter Pace at the start of the year. In a moment of weakness he went to Beauie. All the best Baxter. A great kid and fantastic family. As a result the boys had to collectively lift. They have done so. Winning three out of their first four games. It has been a more even spread. Gus and Craig has them purring along into the heart of the season proper. Last week they beat Prahran by 26 points.
Under 14’s Kyle, Jacko and Frankie have this team winning the last two games. They are playing more and more like a team every week . The mail is that Jacko has Trav Cloke making an appearance and may even play this week to replace “Chopper.” Griffo and Boothy on the magnets make this a real group effort. Well done kids beating Caulfield by 37 points.
Under 15 ‘s Our merged teams with East Sandy. It has been a process in motion. Once the season progresses these teams will start to start to move in unison. The Div one comp is a very competitive group. It would be nice to beat Beauie during the year. Last week our Div 1 team beat East Brighton by 6 points and the Div 3 lost to Bentleigh by 22 points.
Under 17’s – “Cowboy “ McNeil has done a great job getting these boys together. With the assistance of “Spider “ Kennedy they sit second on the ladder. A massive win over Ormond on the weekend at Boss James was very impressive.
Fixtures will come out this week for the remainder of the season. Great for all those Melbourne supporters to plan the skiing holiday. North supporters are asking the best way to buy Grand Final tickets … Really!!
On a serious note, for the second week in a row our club is facing SMJFL sanction because of disrespectful comments directed towards umpires. This is very disappointing. As a club we will not tolerate disrespect to umpires and we ask all players, parents and other spectators to maintain these club standards.
This week at training we ask that coaches reiterate to our teams – including parents – that umpires must be respected. Our game needs umpires and those umpires are human and will make mistakes. It’s part of the game.
So please, we ask all players and parents to enjoy the game, cheer on the players, but stop the umpire criticism.
