Seven Rovers in Dragons squad

Two Brayshaw’s headline seven Hampton Rovers players selected in the 2016 Sandringham Dragons squad announced.

While last year was a quiet one on the AFL recruiting front compared to previous years, this year is looking better for the Dragons, and Rovers for that matter.

Angus Brayshaw was recruited by Melbourne in the 2014 AFL Draft, along with Brayden Maynard (Collingwood) and Karl Amon (Port Adelaide). Now the youngest Brayshaw, Andrew, has joined the middle sibling Hamish in the TAC Cup ranks for 2016.

While the Rovers product develops in his bottom-age season, Hamish might be ticketed for good things judging by his inclusion in the early Vic Metro squad.

A further five players have been included in the squad of 72 selected by the Sandringham Dragons. Such a large number has been selected to cover for the expected loss of players owing to their school football commitments.

Alfie Jarnestrom, Will Walker, Lachlan Harris, Sebastian Williams and James Mangoni are the other players to make the squad which is a great achievement for all and a sign of the quality coming through the Rovers at the moment.

Andrew Brayshaw, Harris, Jarnestrom and Williams all played for Vic Metro in the 2015 NAB AFL Under 16 Championships on the Gold Coast last year. To have one player from a club in the championships is a great feat, but four is almost unheard of. After a solid couple of years prior to 2015 at the AFL Draft, the Hampton Rovers name looks set to make another appearance in the not too distant future.
