Juniors Update – June 17

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend last week.

The club hosted Interleague games on the Saturday and Monday of the long weekend at Boss James. The feedback coming from the other clubs was how lucky we are to have such a fantastic ground to play and train on. The SMJFL girls and boys were very competitive with our Under 14 boys going through to the final. A big thank you to Fiona Wilson and the girls in the canteen over the long weekend.

Gee whizz did I miss our footy last week.

Over the weekend we had 6 games at the fortress and 5 games at the Home of local footy – Boss James:

  • The Under 8’s kicked the dew off the grass against our friendly neighbours East Sandy. Our boys in a tough encounter!
  • Under 9 Blue played Beaumaris – another friendly neighbour. Bernie’s boys faced a tough opponent and the improvement is very evident.
  • Trent’s Under 9 Orange team were very, very, competitive against East Brighton. Lucky we don’t score for the Vampire’s sake.
  • The Under 10 Yellow team were one of the few teams to play away. The boys enjoyed their journey to Waverley Park.
  • Caggs Under 10 Silver team played a very physical Dingley side and the experience will hole the boys in good prep for the remainder of the season.
  • Under 11 West played a tough opponent in East Malvern. Our boys are in a very even comp and just went down. EM – 4.8 -32 def. HR – 3.5 – 23.
  • Under 11 South/White had as many scoring shots but went down to St Kilda City. SKC – 5.6 -36 def. HR – 4.7 – 31.
  • Under 12 Blue are working really well as a team at the moment. HR – 10.10 – 70 def. St.Pauls 1.4 – 10. Well done to Daniel Watson and Joel Scarramazzino on 50 games!
  • Under 13 Div 3 stayed with Dingley for 3 qtrs but were overrun in the last. Dingley 7.5 – 47 def. 3.6 – 24. The boys still holding onto fourth spot on the ladder.
  • Under 14 Div 2 played St.Peters at Boss James. SP – 11.11 – 77 def. HR – 7. 10 52.
  • Under 14 Div 5 went down in a thriller.  South Melb. 7.13 – 55 def. HR 8.5 – 53.
  • Under 16 Div 1 played Beaumaris and won a close one. HR – 7.8 – 50 def. Beauy 6.5 -41.
  • The Under 17’s were victorious in a great game against Murrumbeena. HR – 13.8 – 86 def. M’BEENA – 9.7 – 61. Well done to Jack Hine playing his 150th game.

This week we only have two home games. So good luck to all teams in your journeys. Don’t forget your mouth guards.

We are aiming to grow the club over the next two years from 15 teams to 21 teams.

To build the club into one of the power clubs of the Bayside region we must have two Under 13’s, 14’s and 15’s next year.

It was disappointing last year to lose our girls team. There has been some expressions of interest from a group of girls to form a team in the open age group. These girls are in the 17-19  age bracket. If there is anyone who is interested in assisting with this group please contact myself or a member of the Committee.

We are planning on introducing a pre-registration fee to assist in confirming team numbers.

Congratulations to past-Rovers player Angus Brayshaw on his NAB AFL Rising Star nomination for Round 10. Read more >

Don’t forget the next “AT HOME WITH THE ROVERS” is on the 24th of July at Boss James.

This Saturday, our Seniors are playing at home against local rivals St Bedes/Mentone Tigers in what is a big game for the club. Kick-off is 2pm at Boss James and we welcome everyone to come along and watch – click here for details.

Have a great week!

Regards,
