Hampton Rovers junior Brayden Maynard has completed a strong finish to the 2014 TAC Cup campaign by winning the Sandringham Dragons Best & Fairest while Angus Brayshaw finished fourth.
Both Maynard and Brayshaw are expected to be picked early in next month’s NAB AFL Draft with Angus likely to be picked in the top five, potentially joining other Hampton Rovers players Chris Dawes, Christian Salem and Jayden Hunt at Melbourne in 2015.
Maynard capped off a strong year with a solid performance in the Dragons’ preliminary final.
“It was a really tough time for me when I didn’t make the final game of the national championships this season,” Maynard said on the Sandringham Dragons website.
“There was a patch in the middle of the season where I was playing inconsistent footy and I just had to get back to basics.
“I think it was extremely important for me to use the setback as motivation…the following week I ended up with a best-on-ground performance.”
Maynard finished the season on 38 votes while Brayshaw was equal-fourth on 28 votes. Tyler Roos, who hasn’t played a game for the Rovers but is registered with the club, finished eighth on 21 votes.
Angus Brayshaw, who has received plenty of attention in the media, collected two awards: Most Consistent and Fiercest Dragon while Maynard also won the Team Acts Award.
The 2014 NAB AFL Draft will be held on November 27 on the Gold Coast and the Hampton Rovers website will track the progress of our players as they aim to become the latest Rovers players to make it to the AFL (view all).
