Summer upgrade for Castlefield

Hampton Rovers’ second ground, Castlefield Reserve, will receive a $570,000 makeover, after Bayside Council assigned a contractor to complete the work.

The entire ground needs upgrading to help rectify problems with its playing surface, shape and drainage.

Works will include reshaping and planting of new turf and installation of new drainage systems.

Castlefield Reserve is primarily used by younger junior teams at the Hampton Rovers Football Club. It has also hosted some Thirds and U19s matches as well as Auskick occasionally.

The upgraded playing surface follows the installation of the new lights last year and will be a big positive for the club. The work compliments the facility upgrades undertaken by the club over the past 12 months.

The Ludstone Street ground was the original home ground of the Rovers until the club moved to Boss James Reserve in 1963.

Works on the oval are expected to start soon and be finished before April, in time for the 2015 season.
