Rovers U13 Div 2 Premiers!

After a nail-biter one point win last week in the Semi Final, the Under 13 Div 2 boys made it through to the Grand Final to go up against a confident St Paul’s after they knocked off the top team Waverley Park.

The weather forecast had been for wet weather all week but we woke to a sunny/partly cloudy day.

We would go into the game a 50/50 chance. We felt that if the boys could hold them in the first half they would be a very good chance to finish strongly as that is how they have been playing the second half of the season and we were hopeful that would carry through on the day.

The first half was as tight as it could be with one point in it at half time and we were up! The message at half time was to play our game, man up, play the ball and to believe in themselves and that is just what they did. They just hunted the ball down in the 3rd quarter, not giving an inch to St Paul’s, in fact St Paul’s only managed one more goal for the game. Rovers went on to win by 30 points. A very convincing second half of football by the boys to take out the Flag for 2014!

Well done to all involved, Coach, Ross McAsey, Assistant Coaching staff, Marty Charlton, Pat Maginness & Team Managers, Adam White & Brendan Kenny.

Congratulations to Chris Perkins who was best on Ground! Well deserved, I think all the boys can sleep well knowing it was truly a team effort and to go from dead last on the ladder after round 6 to winning the Flag is a mighty effort in anybody’s book I think.

This mum and Trainer for the team is mighty proud of all the boys. Well done Team!

Go Rovers!
