Sensational Effort on Red Shield Appeal Day

A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal last weekend.

Together the Hampton Rovers Junior team door-knockers and Senior team street corner collectors raised just under $10,000.

“A sensational effort all around and one to be proud of,” says Bill Mirabito, fondly referred to as “Choc”, and Hampton Rovers liaison between the Salvation Army for these past 14 years.

As a club, Hampton Rovers have collected for the Red Shield weekend for the past 14 years, raising an average of $10,000 per year. Our grand total of contributions tipping $110,000.

We were lucky to have clear skies and a gorgeous day but the clear winners were the hordes of enthusiastic players, parents and helpers.

It’s a wonderful thing to collect money for this worthy cause, but almost as valuable is the experience our children received being part of the collection.

Money they each collected will go directly to families in need, purchasing, amongst other things, clothes, food and shelter. They should be proud of themselves!

Fiona Pollard

A big thank you to Fiona for co-ordinating the teams of door knockers and for Choc for liaising with the Salvos.
