Season 2013 was an at times tough but ultimately satisfying and rewarding season for Under 12 West (1).

As a non-graded team playing in a Division with a number of graded teams, our effort in finishing with 6 wins and 8 losses (and a percentage of over 100%) was a great effort.
The competition between the first 6 teams in the Division was very even – there was very little between the teams placed 3rd and 6th (we finished 6th). We managed to beat the teams beneath us and 2 of the teams above us and our largest losing margin was 6 goals – which indicates that we were very competitive on the field.
In every game that we played we were right in the contest and the highlight of the season was a toss up between a heartstopping 3 point win over East Brighton (5th) where we held them goal-less in the last quarter when East Brighton were kicking with the aid of a hurricane or a brilliant, 4 quarter team effort against Waverley Park (3rd) where we won by 4 goals.
I cannot speak highly enough of the efforts and endeavour of the team. All of the coaches and parents were enormously proud of the efforts of every single boy over the course of the season. We had a great group of 20 boys who were a brave, gutsy, fantastic, cohesive, competitive unit who played with huge heart and wonderful spirit. They were never beaten and never, ever stopped trying. The improvement in the boys and the team over the course of the season was a pleasure to watch.
I hope that the boys realise that, as a team, they played a very good brand of football in Season 2013 and all of them should really look forward to next season’s football.
On behalf of Pat and myself, we would like to congratulate the boys on their season – they gave their all and gave enormous pleasure to their parents and supporters with their efforts on the field.
From my own perspective, this group of boys has been a pleasure to coach, and get to know, over the course of the season:
Matt Baxter, Miles Bergman, Will Bullock, Oscar Buscombe, Ethan Clark, Hakan Gonul, Christian Gernandt, Tom Goldsmith, Max Hanna, Lachie Hernardi, Tom Maginness, Louis McAsey, Curtis Neasmith, Nick O’Connor, Darcy Otto, Huntar Pace, James Poulter, Luke Sorensen, Matt Spaziani & Marcus White.
We were also very fortunate to have Pat Maginness as Assistant Coach and Adam White as Team Manager – and I would like to sincerely thank them for their efforts and wonderful, constant support. On and off the field, the year ran very smoothly and that is a credit to Pat and Adam.
A big thank you also to our parents (and grandparents and brothers and sisters) who were there in numbers at each game to cheer on the boys and who between them acted as runners, ran the boundary, waved flags, provided oranges and lollies, escorted umpires and were always supportive of the team and the coaches.
Lastly, a final congratulations to the boys on their season and the manner in which they conducted themselves through all the highs and lows of Season 2013.
