Our team had a very successful year in 2009. We finished 3rd on the ladder however the main objective was for the boys to improve their skill and fitness and play to the best of their ability, whilst enjoying being part of a team. On all these measures, the season was a success
There were many highlights including:
Alex Rae kicking the most goals in the competition, despite spending a lot of time either on the ball or in the backline to further develope his game.
Our bench rotation system meant that, despite a large squad of 25 players, each boy played nearly 3 quarters of game time each week.
The system allowed all boys to enjoy their footy by maximising their game time.
Our positional rotation system meant each boy had an opportunity to kick a goal, and in the end, we had 23/25 players kick a goal. All players played in multiple positions throughout the year, including about 15 on the ball.
The best and fairest award count was very close and congratulations to all the award winners.
We strongly encouraged the boys to kick and handball on their non preferred side and also to bounce the ball, where they had space to do so. It was very pleasing to see the boys develop their skill and confidence throughout the season.
All in all, it was a privilege to coach a terrific group of boys who really enjoyed their football and strengthened their friendships.
Special thanks to Natalie Holmes who was a excellent Team Manager and to Forbes James as my assistant at training and also running a very smooth interchange. Thanks also to all the parents for their assistance during the season.
