We had a good solid year. The boys found it more challenging than last year. Two wins this season but the boys played good positive football. Everyone did something special within themselves. Some boys from last year who were a little quiet stepped up which was pleasing to see.
The opposition teams were very good and strong. Even though we lost most of the games we were always in the game thanks to our competitive football which gave us that chance.
You could really see us improving each game, team work, holding position, staying next to our opposition player and listening which was important.
Their spirit was excellent, win or lose they always fought and played as well as they could the following week.
The lighting premiership was our highlight, narrowly losing in the first game to the overall winner, then winning the second game fairly well. Going down to Prahran which were a very good side – we kept them scoreless in the first half. They managed a couple of goals to defeat us.
Watching our boys sing the song after our win, side by side arm in arm, with pride and passion was fantastic and something I will not forget!!!
The parents were terrific throughout the season and we got to know one another. Doing the odd jobs required for the game to run smoothly. The kids were fantastic, I enjoyed every moment of coaching for the two years.
I think the boys will be fine playing up in the under 11s and I can’t wait to watch the boys play next season.
Thanks to Team managers Miranda Marron and Alex Madden, Runner Phil Bourke, Trainer Anthony Ragg and to all the dads who helped out at training which was invaluable and to Francis Tiernan for the Boundary Umpiring.
Also to the Hampton Rovers Junior committee – well run and fantastic effort all season!!
