The Hampton Rovers head into another important weekend of football, highlighted by the Senior Men’s trip to Marcellin College on Saturday.
Fresh from a gutsy 14-point win over fellow top-four contender Mazenod, the Rovers will be looking to continue their push for a top-two finish with just four home-and-away rounds remaining.
Saturday’s opponent Marcellin will provide another strong test away from home. The Rovers defeated them by 31 points at Boss James Reserve earlier this season, but another committed four-quarter performance will be required as the race for finals positions continues. Congratulations to Joel Melnjak who runs out for his 150th senior VAFA game for the Rovers on Saturday.
The Reserves also travel to Marcellin College, with their match commencing at 11:40am before the Senior Men take the field at 2:00pm.
The Senior Women head to Gordon Barnard Reserve to take on fourth-placed Old Camberwell at 2:00pm and will be looking for a competitive performance.
The Under 19s are the only Rovers side at home this weekend, hosting arch-rivals Ormond at Boss James Reserve from 2:00pm.
The weekend begins on Friday night, with the Thirds travelling to Gerry Green Reserve to face Parkdale Vultures under lights from 7:00pm. The Rovers enter the closing rounds firmly in finals contention following several important wins in recent weeks.
With finals approaching and plenty at stake across the grades, it shapes as another important weekend for the green and gold.
Looking ahead, the Rovers return to Boss James Reserve on Saturday 15 August for the final senior home game and match day function of the season, with the President’s Lunch to be held ahead of the Senior Men’s clash against Glen Eira.
Tickets are selling fast for the 30th Anniversary Domino Luncheon on Friday 21 August, featuring special guest Dermott Brereton. Book now to avoid disappointment.
