Saturday saw the Under 19’s and Thirds run out big winners against Parkside, and a spirited performance by the Seniors away to Old Camberwell.
Senior Men
Coach Marty Pask was very pleased with the effort and the application by the players. Disappointed to again lose three players – one of which in the first 5 mins of the game – James. The players were brave how they played out the game with no bench for the rest of the game.
Pask saw improvement in our younger players which is pleasing – Horigan, Cowell, Ziesing, Hall, B Seddon and J Seddon. Leadership from J Melnjak, Carnovale and O’Driscoll is very encouraging also.
Old Cam 2.4 6.6 9.9 12.15 87
HR 3.0 5.1 6.4 8.8 56
Goals: Chris Perkins 1, Jake Seddon 2, Corey Jones 1, Dan Hall 1, Lachy Cowell 1, Liam O’Driscoll 1, Ollie Horrigan 1
Best: Lachy Costello, Chris Perkins, Jake Dermott, Lachy Cowell, Christian Carnovale, Owen Bater
Reserves
With Goldy away Nick Murnane was again in the coaching role and did a great job. After quarter time the scoring was HR 8.9 to OC 9.1, but the damage had been done. The last quarter was the highlight where we banged on 5 goals to get with less than 2 goals before the greater fitness of the opposition and better kicking enabled them to scramble a win.
Old Cam 6.2 9.2 13.3 15.3 93
HR 0.0 3.5 3.7 8.9 57
Goals: Ryan Leslie 1, Tom Goldsmith 2, Oscar Donald 1, Zac Raghdo 1, Campbell Bennett 1, Robson Bennett-Cochrane 1, Charlie Farrington 1
Best: Tom Goldsmith, Nick Assirvadin, Oscar Donald, Robson Bennett-Cochrane, Bailey White
Senior Women
The Rovers women had one of those days that we’ll put behind us and move onto next week. Decent games from Tiara Annear, Greta Robertson in her 100th game of footy, Bryanna Arnold, Hayley Gould, Holly Lance and our rucks Poppy Ward and 16 year old Grace Bracken who was outstanding. Monash were far hungrier on the day and we just couldn’t get into the game.
Monash 0.0 3.2 4.4 7.7 49
HR 0.0 0.0 0.1 0.1 1
Best : Tiara Annear, Holly Lance, Greta Robertson, Hayley Gould, Grace Bracken, Bryanna Arnold
Under 19s
After having 5 on the bench last week, heading to Pitcher Park north of the Yarra river we were back to our customary 1 on the pine, so multiple rotations to keep everyone fresh (ish) (Never surprising when playing Parkside!)
Rovers hit the scoreboard early and never looked back. Coach Paul Carrigan reminded the players at ¼ time how we went under duress early in the season, so no need to remind the opposition of how they are looking or playing, just let the football talk and respect everyone in the process.
We had many highlights, some great footy experienced, many set pieces that we have talked about and planned for worked, some didn’t but Saturday was the day we could rotate numbers and see what areas going forward might look positive.
Lucas Civitarese kicked two and looked lively as a stay at home forward. Cohan Friend was our BOG and won’t be far away from a senior debut, Gak got plenty and showed his wheels many times, Ranks, Stead, Jakey T, Stefan, Giddy, Tricep all good, Charlie very good also. Mason kicked 6, 15 in last 3 games.
Everyone had good moments, we sang the song & left feeling good about ourselves and in the knowledge of how the Parkside lads must have been feeling, the game always has a duty of care.
Onto Kew at Kew next week, let’s make it 4 from 4.
Parkside 0.0 1.1 1.2 2.5 17

Thirds/Development Squad
Big win at Castlefield to get the Rovers Thirds/Dev Team season back on track. Darcy Merlo dominant up forward all day long. Will Hunter leading the way across all areas of the ground. Goalkicking let us down with 20 behinds but no damage done.
