Rovers battle Carey in Major Semi Final at VAFA HQ

There’s plenty on the line this Saturday, as the Hampton Rovers face Old Carey in the Second Semi Final at Elsternwick Park, with a Grand Final berth, the week off and promotion up for grabs.

It’s set to be a big day for the club, with both the seniors and reserves in action at VAFA headquarters and we’re encouraging Hampton Rovers supporters to get along in big numbers to cheer on the green & gold.

The seniors ended the home and away season in second position on the ladder, securing the double chance, following a big win over Oakleigh. Four matches away from home to close out the 2024 season has prepared the team well for finals action and excitement is high ahead of the weekend.

The Rovers are unbeaten in 12 matches in Premier C Men’s, with the last defeat back in round 6 away to Ajax at Albert Park. Since then, a 30-point win over Parkdale, 47-point victory over Old Carey and a 41-point win over Ajax must give the boys confidence against the other three teams inside the top four. The record against Old Carey is 1-1 this season, with the Panthers claiming a 12-point victory in round 5 against an inaccurate Rovers.

Finals is a new ball game and its set to be a monster clash at Elsternwick Park between two quality sides as the top two go head to head, with the winner to advance straight to the Premier C Grand Final in a fortnight and earn direct promotion to Premier B, while the loser will face up against the winner of the 1st Semi Final next week. The action kicks-off at 2:10pm.

Ticketing details can be found on the VAFA website here – they can be pre-purchased online or at the gate on the day. Entry to Elsternwick Park is via Glen Huntly Road. Limited parking is available inside the venue for $5.

For those unable to make it to the game, the seniors match will be live streamed on the Rovers and VAFA websites.

Earlier at 11:40am, the reserves also face Old Carey in the 1st Semi Final. The Rovers have had a solid season, finishing fourth with a 13-5 record, one win behind the Panthers. The first time they met at Trevor Barker Oval, it was Old Carey claiming a 10-point win, then in round 12 at Bulleen, the Rovers recorded a big 70-point victory.

Both games promise to be cracking contests. Get along to Elsternwick Park to show your support. You can also get live scores via PlayHQ and updates via Rovers Instagram & Facebook stories.
