Rovers to call Trevor Barker Oval home in 2024

The Hampton Rovers Football Club is excited to announce it’ll play its VAFA Premier C Men’s matches at Sandringham’s Trevor Barker Oval during the 2024 season.

In what is the best possible outcome for the club, the arrangement will allow the Rovers to continue hosting Home Game Function’s at every home game in the magnificent Sandy by the Bay function room.

Now that home game arrangements have been locked in, 2024 Club Memberships have gone on sale. Without many of its traditional revenue streams this year, the club is calling on the support of its community to sign up as a 2024 Rovers member. Join now!

Playing home games at Sandringham will allow the club to offer first-class facilities for players and spectators, while the major redevelopment of the Wright-Scarlett Pavilion at Boss James Reserve continues.

The Rovers have now locked in all nine home games at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval, including two swapped fixture (against Monash Blues and Glen Eira).

The round 3 and 13 matches against Monash Blues have been swapped, allowing this fixture to also be played at Sandringham (on July 27), while the first meeting between the two sides will be played at Monash University. The round 9 and 17 matches against Glen Eira have now also been swapped, with June 15 at Sandy and August 24 under lights at Packer Park.

The Rovers will open their 2024 season hosting the newly-promoted Oakleigh at Trevor Barker on April 13. As per typical VAFA match times, all match days at Sandringham will see the reserves commence at 11:40am, followed by the seniors at 2:00pm.

The Hampton Rovers Football Club is extremely grateful for the support of the Sandringham Football Club and in particular CEO Marcus Ashcroft, and the Bayside City Council.

New Hampton Rovers Senior Coach Marty Pask shared his excitement with the announcement of the Rovers being based at Sandringham in 2024.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our football club to benefit from one of the best grounds in Victoria and again connect with the Bayside Community.

“Thank you to Marcus and the Sandringham Football Club for allowing our Club with this opportunity that further strengthens the relationship we have between our great clubs.”

Under 19 and Thirds matches are expected to remain at Boss James Reserve (as well as juniors and Auskick) with its temporary facilities, with the possibility of night matches under the recently-installed 150 lux LED lighting, while Senior Women’s matches will remain at Castlefield Reserve.

Senior training will remain at Boss James Reserve, under the new lights, with arrangements currently being finalised for a nearby venue to facilitate team selection, and dinner and drinks for players and supporters.

Stay tuned for information on 2024 Club Membership packages which will go on sale via the Rovers Online Shop, and Rovers Home Game Luncheons at Sandy by the Bay hosted by our long-time caterers ASAT, featuring sensational views over the ground, where we invite everyone in the Rovers and extended local community to attend.

Meanwhile, player registrations are now open for the 2024 VAFA season, as pre-season training steps up a gear ahead of this Saturday’s intra-club match from 2pm at the Healthy Futures Hub in Seaford (formerly the Linen House Centre). This will be followed by a practice match against Croydon (details TBC) and against St Bedes/Mentone on Friday 22 March also at HFH Seaford.
