Last Saturday was probably one of our worst weekend’s results for a few years. Only one winning team and probably the most unlikely! Great to see coach Andrew McGregor at Old Ivanhoe before the Thirds/Development 4.45pm game at Monash.
He was not particularly confident at the lunch and described the outcome as being very dependent on who turns up on the day (night)! They clearly turned up and had a thumping 9 goal win against the Uni boys. Some familiar names in the team, Steve Anderson backed up by his sons Ollie and Nick, Jack Campion firing with 7 goals, Darcy Merlo in the best, Dave Broadstock in the ruck and in the goals kicking two and Luke Morcom and Chris Ellison representing the older brigade! The rest of the team was made up of Under 19s who are still learning the game.
At Chelsworth Park, the Seniors had put in their best performance for the year and at the main break, held a couple of goals lead and were looking good. The less said about the second half the better as somehow Old Ivanhoe hit their straps and banged on 13 goals to 2 goals in what was a total demolition. It didn’t matter what the team did after half time OI had the ball on a string and when it came to kicking goals they just couldn’t miss – the 13 goals only included 2 behinds. Liam O’Driscoll continued his good form, Chris Perkins hit form, the captain just kept driving in for the ball at times to the ire of some of the Ivanhoe boys and Ryan Leslie and Max Van Der Straten down back tried hard all day but it was hard for them against the tide. The other bright parts of the day was the continuing good form of Hugo Garrow and the sparkling debut by Will Crawford who under great pressure from the OI defence did manage to slot his maiden goal.
The Women clearly had a tough battle all day against the bigger and stronger Old Haileybury team but were not disgraced. Same number of scoring shots as the winners but just lacking a bit in accuracy was letting us down. Great to see Maisie Evans BOG again for us, that make it 3 out of the last 4 games.

The Rovers Senior Men host Old Carey at the Boss for our last home game for three weeks. This is a must win game and we urge all supporters to make the effort to get along to lunch and the game to support the team in this critical time of the season. Word is that there will be a special guest who will have some interesting commentary on things going on in the AFL at the moment. Book through the website or contact Nashy on 0407 313054.
