Countdown to Season 2023

Pre-season is officially over, and the countdown is now on to the start of the 2023 VAFA season for Hampton Rovers’ five senior teams.

Ahead of the new season, you can show your support for the Rovers by purchasing a 2023 Club Membership – starting at just $70, packages include entry to Home Game Luncheon’s and more. We’re looking to exceed 100 again, so please jump onboard today! Join online here.

Player numbers have been strong across the pre-season campaign with plenty of fresh and familiar faces. The Senior Men’s team had two excellent hit-outs, against Bonbeach and Ajax, and a big win over Moorabbin in a scratch match.

Hampton will start the season away from home following the Easter long weekend on April 15, against Marcellin at Bulleen, before hosting Ormond at home in round two (more on that below). View the 2023 Fixture.

The Senior Women have been promoted to Division 1 following their premiership win last season. It’s a bigger jump than usual, with a change in structure of the VAFA Women’s competition this year, however the Rovers are ready to give it their all against stronger opponents. The girls kick-off their season against Old Brighton at Brighton Beach Oval.

The Under 19’s are looking strong under new coach Paul Carrigan, and they’ll need to be in Division 1. The Rovers start their campaign at Boss James Reserve against Old Haileybury.

The Thirds fixture is being finalised at the moment and will be released in the coming days. The side is expected to feature an overflow of U19 players, however there are still spots available for more experienced heads wanting to play this year.

The Rovers Season Launch was a great evening last Friday at club sponsor Hotel Brighton, with big numbers in attendance, but now focus turns to round one.

The first home game of the season for the seniors (round 2) will be a big occasion, against arch rivals Ormond on April 22. It’s sure to be a sell-out luncheon and bookings are now being taken – click here to book online or contact Gary Nash. An on-ground ANZAC ceremony will precede the senior game at around 1:40pm, ahead of a 2pm start for the main game.

It’s also a big triple-header, with the Senior Women unfurling their premiership flag before they take on Old Camberwell at 9:20am. Lock the date in now and ensure you’re at Boss James Reserve for a big day!

Player Sponsorship is also now available for the 2023 season – support a player and you’ll receive a 2023 social membership. Click here for details.

With the cricket season wrapped up, the club has now taken over Boss James Reserve (and Castlefield Reserve) ahead of the new season, with the bump-in underway.

The Rovers Bar is now open every Thursday night from 6pm and we invite all supporters of the club down to the Boss.

Finally, please remember a community sports club doesn’t run without the generous help of volunteers. The Rovers are lucky to have such a great group of helpers, but there are always opportunities to get involved and help the club achieve greatness.

Enjoy the Easter long weekend and we look forward to your support throughout the 2023 season!

Go Rovers.
