Anthony Quon reappointed for 2020

The club is pleased to confirm the reappointment of senior coach Anthony Quon for the 2020 VAFA Premier C season, while also locking in other key appointments and announcing new coaches for the Reserves and Senior Women’s teams.

Also reappointed for the new campaign is senior assistant Peter O’Dea, Thirds coach Andrew McGregor and premiership-winning Under 19 coach Sam Care.

While disappointed not to make finals this year, results were heavily impacted by the unavailability of players – at one stage there was in excess of 32 players overseas or injured. The club has been impressed with Anthony’s performance as senior coach since taking over in mid-2017 and look forward to having him on board again in 2020.

“After a tough first season back in Premier C, I believe that we have the group to play finals. I’m looking forward to that challenge and pleased to go around again” – Anthony Quon.

With Anton Duddy deciding to take a break following three years as Reserves coach, the club has great pleasure in announcing Sam Clements as the new coach of the two’s. A former senior player, Sam has assisted in various roles this year – including pulling on the boots to help out on several occasions – and his leadership and knowledge will no doubt be an asset as coach in 2020.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the hard work Duddy and the boys have put in over the past few years. He built a really solid culture in the reserves that will only continue to grow in 2020. Add in a strong group of U19s pushing for senior selection, we will be looking to be a strong Reserves side yet again.” – Sam Clements.

The final piece of the coaching jigsaw was put in place on Tuesday with the announcement of Corey Randall as the new coach of the Senior Women’s team. Paul Curry is stepping down due to relocating away from the area and has done a magnificent job over two seasons, lifting the team to a Grand Final appearance this year. Corey stepped in on several occasions this season when Paul was unavailable and was well received by the team and the club is confident he’ll succeed on a full-time basis in 2020.

“I’m stoked to be provided with the opportunity to lead this amazing group. I look forward to the challenge and hopefully taking the team one step further next year” – Corey Randall.

2019 was a respectable year for the club, with three senior teams making finals, including two Grand Final’s, resulting in an U19 Premiership, and the seniors finishing strong to avoid relegation on their own terms. We look forward to an even more successful 2020 season.
