Seniors

Preview: Rovers away v Ajax

Hampton Rovers take on Ajax this Saturday at Albert Park, in the penultimate round of the 2019 VAFA season, while the Under 19s travel to Marcellin. Three crucial games for the club this weekend!

Last week, the Seniors went down to Ormond, and with Old Camberwell picking up an unexpected win, the pressure has been placed back on the Rovers to avoid relegation. If the Rovers defeat Ajax, Premier C is assured for 2020. A loss will likely mean the Rovers must win the final game of the season against Old Mentonians at the Boss.

Three changes to the team with some good players back in the line-up. Last time the two teams met, it was the Rovers victorious by 41 points, however Ajax has hit form in the second half of the season and now sit third on the ladder.

The Reserves are coming off a sensational win over Ormond and now sit fourth and must keep winning to secure finals footy this year. They kick-off at 11:40am with the Seniors at 2:00pm. Live sores via the Rovers website and updates on Rovers Twitter.

The venue is Gary Smorgon Oval on Aughtie Drive at Albert Park. Parking is always difficult, however it’ll be more so on Saturday with games next door at South Melbourne District’s home ground. Car-pool if possible and look for parking off Canterbury Road near Fraser St and then walk across the tram tracks near Middle Park station.

The Under 19s remain in second position despite going down to Old Geelong last weekend. The boys now sit on equal points with Marcellin – Saturday’s opponent, with the winner to secure the double-chance. Saturday’s final round of the home and away season kicks-off at 11:40am at Marcellin College in Bulleen.
