Women into Grand Final as Seniors return to winners list

The Hampton Rovers Football Club has had five VAFA wins from five games on a weekend, for the first time in the club’s 90-year history.

On Sunday, the Senior Women continued their hot form, knocking over minor-premiers UHS-VU by 15 points to advance to the Grand Final. In front of a great crowd at the Mentone Grammar Playing Fields, a five-goal second quarter set up a solid victory for the girls. Bianca Lenarcic was best for the Rovers, while Tarryn Hurst and Zara Phillips each kicked three goals. The Rovers now face Preston in the season-decider on Sunday 18th August, on the same ground, starting at 1:15pm.

At Boss James Reserve on Saturday, the Seniors recorded a crucial victory over Old Camberwell to all but secure survival in Premier C for 2020. The Rovers held the opposition goalless in the first half, and just three for the game. James Prosser was best while Oscar Roberts kicked two goals in the 24-point victory.

The Reserves held off a spirit Old Camberwell, to keep the Rovers finals chances alive, while the Thirds travelled to Bundoora and defeated Old Paradians by six points.

The Under 19s finished strong to defeat Old Xaverians away from home and remain second on the table with two rounds remaining.
