Under 19

Sam Care appointed U19 coach

The Hampton Rovers Football Club has appointed Sam Care as coach of the Under 19s for the 2019 season.

The club is delighted to see Sam return to the role, after successfully coaching the Under 19 Reserves to the finals in 2017.

Sam will have support from others around the club including past-U19 coach John Cesario in a mentor role while remaining on the senior coaching panel. Past Rovers player and North Melbourne AFL recruit Will Walker has been announced as assistant coach of the team.

Sam last coached in 2017 when the club fielded two U19 teams, taking the reins of the second team and leading them to a finals appearance. Another claim to fame was coaching Will Walker in his only game for the club that season and taking the credit for him being drafted to North Melbourne later that year. We like the sound of that, so let’s run with it.

In all seriousness, Sam is enthusiastic and looking forward to taking on the role as head coach of the Rovers U19s in 2019. He wants to create an enjoyable environment for the team which leads to a winning culture. This was evident two seasons ago and will no doubt be the case again this year.

The team is in good hands with Miranda Marron, who recently became a life member of the club and has been team manager of this group since the first year of junior footy, backing up again, this year as U19 team manager.

Player registrations are now open for the 2019 season, and they can be done online here. If you’re coming up from the Sandy Rovers U17s, or another club, a transfer will need to be put in for you – so please let Miranda know or contact the club so this can be done. (Please don’t register using the junior registration link or by signing up as a new player.) The club is once again offering U19 player subs at the discounted rate of just $120 for the 2019 season.

The club encourages all new and existing players to get along to pre-season training – each Monday and Wednesday from 6pm – meet at Boss James Reserve. The first practice game will take place on March 16 while the 2019 season commences on April 6. The fixture is expected to be released in the next week or two.
