Rovers set for Ormond in Season Decider

The countdown is just about over and the 2018 VAFA Division 1 Grand Final is upon us, with the two most dominant teams from the home and away season, Hampton Rovers and Ormond, to lock horns at Trevor Barker Oval on Saturday.

Great to see so many parents and supporters at Boss James Reserve on Thursday evening for selection night – and a special thanks to those who helped out in the kitchen to put on such a wonderful dinner. It really was a great vibe at the club as Grand Final selection night always is.

Indicative of the depth these sides possess, the same two clubs will also square off in the reserves. Strong lists they are, with a plethora of potential matchwinners. We can salivate at the thought of the Monders’ Jeremy Simon, Blair Atkins, Matt Hine and Thomas Buckley going head to head with, and trying to negate the influence of, the Rovers’ Ant Folino, Christian Carnovale, Danny Corp and Ben Kneebush for the fourth time this season. Ormond hold the bragging rights with two wins and a draw from three prior encounters, but there has never been enough substantive evidence to suggest that the Rovers are incapable of engineering a turnaround.

A couple of changes to the Rovers side which defeated Oakleigh in the Preliminary Final last weekend and it’s a strong side that will face off against our arch rivals in Saturday’s Grand Final. Plenty of competition for spots and the toughest night of the year for Anthony Quon and co at the selection table.

The two clubs meet for the third time in four weeks and for the fourth time this season. It’ll also be the 19th time the Rovers and Ormond have met at senior level since 2002 and the third Grand Final. Read more about the great rivalry here.

All is set for an epic encounter and the entire Hampton Rovers community is strongly encouraged to get along to Sandringham’s Trevor Barker Oval in green and gold and in big numbers to show your support for the club in what is a huge day!

This week, the Rovers will be in the changerooms under the social club (at the northern end of Trevor Barker Oval) – therefore we encourage supporters to own the northern end of the ground. The support last week, especially in the final quarter, against Oakleigh behind the goals was sensational and we look forward to even more of that on Saturday!

Get along early to cheer on the Reserves who commence at 12pm midday, followed by the main game at 2:30pm. Please remember no dogs are allowed into VAFA finals venues.
