Seniors

Final practice run as R1 beckons

The Seniors, Reserves and U19s had their final hit-out against Ormond on Saturday while the Senior Women’s team played their first matches ahead of round one this weekend.

The Seniors took on Ormond at EE Gunn Reserve in what has become a traditional pre-season fixture. The Rovers dominated early on but were inaccurate in front of goal and that cost the side in the end, ending up with 10 more scoring shots but going down by five points. Final score HR 6.18.54 ORM 9.5.59.

Still, plenty of positives from the young Rovers outfit and the boys are ready to tackle Kew this Saturday in round one of the VAFA Premier C season away at Victoria Park, Kew.

The Senior Women’s side participated in the VAFA Lightning Carnival at Sportscover Arena and with over 40 players in the squad, coach Ned Fallon had the tough task of rotating the girls around. They dominated the first game against De Da Salle, winning 5.3.33 – 0.1.1. They then went down to the eventual Premiers Old Geelong as well as St Bedes/Mentone in low-scoring affairs.

The girls absolutely loved it and we now look forward to Friday evening when Hampton Rovers hosts the first ever VAFA Women’s game for premiership points. The Rovers host Ormond at Boss James Reserve, kicking-off at 7:40pm. Prior to the game, the club is hosting a function which is now almost sold-out – click here for details.

It promises to be a great night and we encourage everyone to get along and show their support in what will be a historic evening for the VAFA – now in its 125th year. On Saturday, as well as the Seniors taking on Kew, the U19s face off against Old Ivanhoe at Boss James Reserve commencing at 2pm and the second U19 team travels to Aquinas starting at 9:20am. After the final practice matches on Saturday, the good times rolled on to Hotel Brighton where the 2017 Season Launch was held. Great to see so many people there from both the men’s and women’s teams – the biggest we’ve had in recent times. Check out Instagram and Facebook for a few pics.

We also invite all supporters to the club Thursday evening for the first selection night of 2017. The bar will be open from 6pm with dinner available from 7:30pm. Hear the five teams ahead of the weekend!
