Captain Carnovale

At last week’s Presentation Night, it was announced that Christian Carnovale would assume the role of senior captain for the 2017 season.

Current co-captains Leigh Fletcher and Daniel Corp have decided to pass on the baton and there is no doubt Carny is the right man for the job. Fletch has been captain since 2012 and has decided the time is right in his life to pass it over and play on without the added responsibility, while Corpy came on as co-captain this year but will miss the start of next year. As he’s already overseas, it was Leigh who made the announcement at True South last Thursday.

Despite his young age, Christian has developed as a leader both on and off the field. He has excelled as part of the senior leadership group this year, was nominated as a VAFA rising star and came third in the senior best & fairest. He also captained the VAFA Under 19 representative team earlier in the year against AFL Vic Country.

He thanked outgoing senior coach Owen Lalor and showed his commitment to the Hampton Rovers.

“I love this club and I’m never going to leave it”

“Next year and in the years to come, I’ll give 110% to drive this club forward from my position and get us to a flag.”

There has been strong interest in the 2017 senior coaching position, with applications closing this Friday. The club looks forward to locking in a new coach in the near future and preparing for the new season.
