Seniors

From the President

It’s hard to believe that there is only five weeks of the season left. At this stage, the Seniors will be facing a big challenge to avoid relegation to Premier B section for 2017. However, the feeling around the club contradicts the results on the field, and it was great to see the boys win their first home game of the season last week over Old Haileybury in such exceptional circumstances.

It’s noted the amount of youth that has been pushed through this year. We’ve got 131 registered players of which 114 have played at least one game in the three senior teams and 49 have played in the firsts which is a huge positive for the future of the club.

A couple of weeks’ back was massive one for the club. On the Friday night we had At Home with the Rovers and Auskick all in one, with Angus Brayshaw attended along with our Club Captains and Christian Carnovale fresh off Captaining Victoria. Then on the Saturday we had Leigh Fletcher’s 200th milestone game and Hall of Fame Inductees at a sold-out lunch with over 120 people in attendance. It was one of the biggest weekends I have seen at Boss James Reserve for quite some time.

I call on everyone to get along to the Auction night this coming Saturday, 30th of July at the Boss, another major fundraiser for the club. Momentum continues to build and it looks like being a big night.

The new electronic scoreboard for Boss James Reserve has had a few hiccups along the way, however I’m pleased to say that as of Wednesday this week, it’s now been fully approved at Council level and we hope to get it installed in the coming weeks. This will really complete our home ground as the best in Bayside, following the installation of the new lights earlier in the year, our great clubrooms and playing surface.

We will continue to call on numbers for the new Hampton Professional Community. Once off the ground, this new initiative will provide business opportunity and networking avenues. Contact Matt Lawrence – matt@happybrands.com.au to seek further information on this.

Long term goals are in progress to provide a #onerovers strategy and ensure that all three sections of the club unite together. The future of the club is bright and I look forward to a strong finish to the 2016 season.

Go Rovers.
