Rovers junior Christian Salem kicked a supergoal in Melbourne’s NAB Challenge win over St Kilda on Saturday to earn the club $500 of Sherrin’s. View the goal >
Christian has had a strong pre-season for the Demons and the club completed their undefeated NAB Challenge campaign with a 24-point win over the Saints at Etihad Stadium. Salem’s goal from outside 50 early in the final term dribbled over the goal line and the Rovers claim $500 of Sherrin footy’s thanks to NAB. He’s played in the three matches for Melbourne, averaging 18.6 possessions including 26 on Sunday.
The Rovers’ other two players were missing from the Melbourne line-up due to injury. Angus Brayshaw suffered a minor knee injury in the opening seconds of the first NAB Challenge game against Port Adelaide but is expected to be pushing for selection for round one. Chris Dawes continues to recover from a persistent calf muscle injury and is resigned to missing the first month of the AFL season.
Elsewhere, Brayden Maynard played in all three of Collingwood’s NAB Challenge matches with an average of 8.3 disposals per game, including 18 disposals in the win over North Melbourne in Wagga. He was recently rewarded with a contract extension keeping him at the Magpies until at least 2019. Watch his interview following that game.
Karl Amon was also solid, playing in all three matches for Port Adelaide, averaging 11.3 disposals. He’s has built up over the off-season and is looking to cement his spot in the senior side in 2016 – read more here.
