Strong start to Pre-Season Training

Hampton Rovers senior pre-season got back underway on Monday with over 40 players at Boss James Reserve. The club welcomes all new and existing players as we prepare for VAFA Premier B in 2016.

Numbers were strong throughout the 10 sessions prior to Christmas and the trend has continued in mid-January as training steps up a gear as we resume under new senior coach Owen Lalor.

It’s a positive vibe around the club and it was great to see plenty of new and familiar faces, young guns and experienced stars of the club at the first session back.

Training sessions will be held each Monday and Wednesday at Boss James Reserve commencing at 6pm. Note there won’t be training on Monday 25th January due to Australia Day.

All new and existing senior, reserves, thirds and under 19 players are encouraged to attend.

Meanwhile, practice match opponents have been announced. First up, the Rovers face arch-rivals Ormond on Saturday 5th March (sen/res/u19 – venue TBC). Following Easter on Saturday 19th March, the second set of matches will be against 2015 SFNL Div 1 Grand Finalist Mordialloc at Ben Kavanagh Reserve in Mordialloc (sen/res – u19 opponent TBC). Finally, the Rovers will face up against Mazenod on Saturday 2nd April (sen/res/u19 – venue TBC).

The 2016 VAFA Premier B season kicks-off on Saturday 9th April with the Hampton Rovers hosting Parkdale Vultures at Boss James Reserve.

The club will again field four teams in the VAFA in 2016 and we welcome new players to the club. This year sees the highly-regarded Owen Lalor taking over from Guy Martyn as senior coach while Guy will focus solely on playing duties. Off the field, club legend Steve Anderson was recently announced as new President while facilities will continue to improve including the installation of new lights at Boss James Reserve which will be completed in February.
