Rd8 Preview: Rovers v Ajax

Hampton Rovers travel to Albert Park again this weekend, this time to face Ajax at Gary Smorgon Oval in round 8 of the 2015 VAFA Premier B season.

After a decent start to the season, the Rovers have suffered a number of injuries over the past couple of weeks, with five changes going into last week’s loss against Old Melburnians at Junction Oval, and playing the majority of the second half with 17 fit players. Still, the Rovers sit in fifth position on the ladder with a three-four record. Following round 8 there is a week-off for all teams which has come at a good time for the Rovers.

This Saturday, the Rovers face long-time rivals Ajax at Albert Park. It’s the first time since 2008 the two clubs have met and in eight clashes since 2003, it’s evenly split at four wins each.

Hampton has seven changes to the side with captain Leigh Fletcher and Traeger-Haig returning from a week off. There are also two players making their first appearance in the ones for the year and two making their senior debut while the word is a premiership star will make his first appearance for 2015.

The Seniors kick-off at 2:00pm and the Reserves 11:40am at Gary Smorgon Oval. Please note parking is limited in the area. Due to Auskick, there will be no parking prior to 10:45am. Either park in Aughtie Drive (and buy a parking ticket) or in Fraser Street near Canterbury Road where there is free parking and make the short walk across the lightrail line.

LIVE SCORES of the main game (and all senior VAFA games) are available on the Hampton Rovers website and mobile site (click here) as well as updates all day on Twitter (@HRAFC) & Instagram (hamptonrovers). Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook also.

It’s a double-header back at Boss James Reserve with the Under 19s and Thirds in action.

At 11:40am, the Thirds take on Collegians and that’s followed by the Under 19s who returned to the winners list last week, taking on top-two side Old Geelong who they defeated back in round two – that game kicks-off at 2:00pm.

Immediately following the U19 game, the Bar will be open in the social rooms at Boss James Reserve and we welcome everyone back to the club for a drink.
